Choose the perfect smart body fat scale that works for you

These days there are different options available when it comes to selecting smart scale. Different people have different questions about the how to choose the right smart body fat scale and what all things does it measures.

All the smart scale provide a connectivity options to Mobile App and generally go beyond just weight and can measure lot of other metrics like body fat, bone mass, Hydration and so on. The connectivity is either through Bluetooth or WiFi, the choice of selecting either Bluetooth or WiFi is purely based on individual, from the measurement point of view there’s no difference at all due to this. Its just the way for Scale to send data to Mobile App. WiFi may be little expensive and can drain the batteries more quickly then Bluetooth as WiFi needs more power compared to Bluetooth. 

The technology used is BIA (Bio-electrical Impedance Analysis) which is a process that involves sending a low, safe electrical current through your body. All the major company uses the same technology and the results are not 100% accurate, no one can provide this, but it generally works for measuring body measurements over time. The advantage of have a smart scale is that all the body data is captured in Mobile App so user don’t have to manual enter the details or remember the details. With so many smart scales out there in market, it can be little difficult to choose which Smart Scale is right for you. That’s the idea of this post to help users to select the Smart Body Scale or Analyzer based on their requirement.


Measurement Parameters

The scale can measure different parameters, its upto user to see which parameters are important to them and if they are available in the Scale, in general, most of the scale provides, Weight, BMI, Fat %, Hydration.


Look and Feel

The look of the scale is also an important factor for some user. Especially the quality of material used. You should prefer the Scale with toughened Glass top as for scale that use plastic or similar top get dirty too quickly and may have problems to clean it. Accuracy


All the Scale used for Home usages will have some difference in accuracy, but you generally want one that will represent something close to your actual weight and body measurements. The recommendation to user is to measure the weight around the same time of the day for example 7am in the morning, its better to do it first thing in the morning so you get the consistent trends.


It is also important that the Scale is kept on the flat surface and you are bear-foot and not wearing socks etc while you measure the weight and other parameters.



Important Note

These scales are not recommended for Pregnant women and people who have an electrical implant such as pacemaker or defibrillator or any other scale that uses BIA technology.

Mobile App


The mobile App has to be intuitive and should show trends and graphs to understand the progress in quick and easy way like monthly or weekly trends. When selecting an App, please verify that you are using an App from unknown brand (there are lot of typical Chinese App and its difficult to know who the owner of App) - Try to avoid such apps as your information in the App will be shared with them.



Monitor Progress


Trend in Apps are helpful to monitor the progress over the time. Select the Scale with an App which shows you trends/progress over the time and stores it for future reference. The App which also shows you where are you currently with Health Index and what should be the target as per your age, height, gender.
